My Top 5 Favorite Food Bloggers (And Why YOU Should Follow Them!)
This has been a highly requested post since I first started posting recipes and giving Instagram shout outs to the amazing men and women that I follow, who feed me inspiration for our blog DAILY. Food bloggers are fabulous. Unlike many of the other bloggers in the world, food bloggers post insanely often, they are constantly updating tricks and tidbits of great info, and they are usually kind, hilarious people who rarely get recognition for anything other than a good (or bad) recipe! I follow the following ladies and gents on all social platforms, and totally recommend them!
#5: Dessert For Two - Christina Lane
Insta Handle: @dessertfortwo
Blog Website: https://www.dessertfortwo.com/
Why To Follow: Christina is this cute little mom who posts about lifestyle, food, mommin’, fashion...everything (not just dessert)! I wasn’t aware of this trend called “One Pot Pasta” until following her, and I am so thankful I found someone who can help me make small meals that Nik and don’t have to eat on for 2 weeks straight! She’s constantly putting out new, small batch recipes for a fresh twist on cooking for two or two and a half people (she has a young daughter). She also dishes about packing her girl’s lunch and getting her to eat all kinds of food, teaching her girl how to cook, and my personal favorite, when she makes half jokes about taking a walk around the block with sneaky wine in hand. She has a wonderful sense of humor, though at times she’s a little dry, she cracks me up with the storytelling and ability to make even recipes cute and funny. She actually inspired my very first vlog for small batch cookies! She’s got a few books (I own “Dinner For Two”) and they are also great additions to my kitchen. Her food is yummy and fairly balanced, even though her name is a little misleading, she’s got a LOT more to offer the world than dessert!
#4: Spices In MY DNA - Molly
Insta Handle: @spicesinmydna
Blog Website: https://www.spicesinmydna.com/
Why To Follow: First and foremost, Molly cooks with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and puts out time and weather appropriate meals. I pretty much lived on her posts this past summer and had some of the FRESHEST tacos, skewers, salads, and more. Her recipes are easy to follow, and though they do require a little extra shopping since the ingredients are seasonal, I never complained because the trip to Trader Joe’s was ALWAYS worth the tasty outcome. Molly also has some of the best photography skills out there (food wise) and is constantly sharing food staging techniques and tips, which is amazingly helpful to those of us just starting out in the blogging world, and let me tell you, food photos are a LOT harder than they appear. Molly’s meals are fresh and healthy, and they can easily be doubled or tripled to feed the masses. She’s got a friendly, welcoming online presence, and she’s always willing to give advice to those who message her (which can’t be said about all bloggers). Keep up the awesome content Molly!
#3: Plays Well With Butter - Jess
Insta Handle: @playswellwithbutter
Blog Website: http://playswellwithbutter.com/
Why To Follow: Jess very well might be the funniest food blogger on the internet today. Okay, I exaggerate, but seriously guys, she is hilarious. First of all, her adorable little Wisconsin accent just kills me, and she makes her posts so fun and interactive. Nearly daily, she’s got a funny story for her followers documenting a fail, or just something funny that happened to her, and normally, I watch my Insta stories with no sound, but when I get to Jess, I always pump up the volume. Aside from her wit, Jess puts out easy, delicious, home cooked meals that help me out of a rut when I want to try something new. She does a bit more on the “comfort” side of cooking, but she never overdoes it on the heaviness of a plated meals. She’s got the ability to make you eat her recipes and be VERY happy, but still have the ability to breathe, and maybe even have dessert. It’s an art really. Jess has to be my hands down favorite online personality, and she’s always giving advice on taking food photos as well (again, super helpful so please keep doing this!). She also asks for responses on her social platforms and actually responds to messages, again, not many bloggers do this anymore! Love your content Jess!
#2: Sally’s Bake Blog - Sally Quinn
Insta Handle: @sallysbakeblog
Blog Website: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/
Why To Follow: Two main reasons: 1) Her website is insanely easy to find anything baking related that you could EVER need. Seriously, I don’t even Google baking recipes anymore, I just go to her blog (she’s got a crazy amount of content out!!), and 2) To date, I have probably attempted nearly 100 of her baking recipes, and only ONE has gone awry (and it was by my own dumb fault that it went bad, but hey, I can 100% say that after I flipped and dropped the cake I made, I ate it right out of the sink. It was THAT good). She truthfully is a baking guru. I use her blog DAILY for baking inspiration for our own blog, and when I haven't made up my own recipe for anything baking, I turn to hers as if it were my own, trusted recipe. She’s got killer tips and tricks for even the most daunting of recipes like making pies, caramels, leavening breads with different agents, and so much more. Her blog has not only helped me get out of a baking rut, but it’s actually taught me a ton about baking tricks that I otherwise would have never known! Sally also posts occasionally about her life as a mom and wife, which I adore, she’s got baking videos up, and tips, behind the scenes, and SO much more. Again, her website organization is on point, so even if I don’t know what I want, I go to her site and let her tell me what I should make. When Nik and I want a treat, I have him scroll her Insta and pick out something from there, because I know I already have most of her go-tos in my pantry. I am forever a follower of Sally’s Bake Blog!
#1: How Sweet Eats - Jessica Merchant
Insta Handle: @howsweeteats
Blog Website: https://www.howsweeteats.com/
Why To Follow: Here it is guys, my holy grail of all things cooking. Jessica is my hands down favorite all around food blogger, because she not only puts out fresh content like 6 times a day (first of all, I don’t even know how she is THAT creative), but she also releases holiday guides, party guide, beauty favorites, info about her family, AND I found out that she is friends with Jess @playswellwithbutter, so my life was complete because I love them both. Jessica’s cookbook “The Pretty Dish” is my most consulted cookbook for 2018, hands down. First off, she put a picture of EVERY. SINGLE. DISH. in her book. Every recipe has a photo, or two or three… which is basically unheard of. For the price, she offered an amazing product, and takes her own photos! She gives photo advice, beauty secrets, entertaining guides that I have personally used 3 times and they have worked out stupendously, and even playlists. YES, PLAYLISTS for various dinner parties on Spotify. She has a balance of healthy and hearty dinners, fresh and easy lunches, salads and pizzas, cocktails and MOCKTAILS (Jess, you got me through my pregnancy with these in CLUTCH), tips on starting a blog, writing a cookbook, taking your own photos, and SOOOOO much more. If you don’t own her cookbook, go buy it. Then buy like 4 more to give to your friends and family for birthdays, Christmas, Bat Mitzvahs, I don’t care. They will love it. Can’t wait to see Jessica’s next adventure!
BONUS: Broma Bakery (Owner of Foodtograhy School as well!) - Sarah Fennel
Blog Website: https://bromabakery.com/
Why To Follow: I genuinely thought I could stop at 5 guys, but I have to add one bonus one for ANYONE considering starting a food blog. Sarah is the owner of Broma Bakery Blog, AND Foodtography School. I needed one last push to get our blog up and running, and Sarah gave that to me. Molly @spicesinmydna actually mentioned her on her own Instagram story, and a few days later, so did Jess @playswellwithbutter. I creeped on her ‘Grams, and they were both SO gorgeous. I thought, “wow, back to the drawing board, because I officially have an ugly online presence”. So just weeks before launching our blog, I tuned in to a free online seminar hosted by Sarah where she gave some invaluable information to those just starting out in the blogging world. She helped Nik and I select the Canon camera we ended up purchasing for blogging and vlogging (The Canon 6D Mark ii in case you were wondering) as well as the first lenses and equipment we invested in to get the blog off the ground. I tuned in to a few more of her free seminars, and within the next year or so, I want to hop on and actually go through her school so I can have that gorgeous online presence like she does. She offers so many tips and tricks from lighting, to editing, software and camera preferences, and so much more!
That’s it for me! Anyone I’m missing and SHOULD be following?!
